Saitama
Prefecture
Located adjacent to the northern
side of Tokyo, the physical make up of Saitama Prefecture
consists of green plains and rolling hills. Home to over six
million people and ranked one of the largest cities in Japan
in terms of population, Saitama is the fastest growing prefecture.
Connected by two bullet trains, the Tohoku and Jo-etsu train,
Saitama is one of the key transportation hubs in eastern Japan.
The area comprising Urawa and Omiya is being developed into a new
Saitama industrial/cultural zone, which will be the centre
of prefectural activities in the 21st century.
Interest in football is extremely high all throughout the prefecture
and especially in Urawa, home of the J. League Red Diamonds.
The city of Urawa is currently building the 63,700-seat Saitama
Stadium 2002, the largest football-only stadium in the country.
